History of Century boats
Century Boat Company was founded in 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by James and William Welch. They began by building wooden plank hulls boats made especially for high speeds. During 1928 the company moved to Manistee, Michigan, where it operated for the next sixty years. By 1937, the company offered 28 different models to its customers. In World War II, they served the United States government, building 3,600 ships, earning recognition from the US Navy.
During the 1950s, Century earned the slogan of the thoroughbred boats. In the 60s, Welch was one of the first builders to include fiberglass as a fundamental material in the hulls of his boats.
Meanwhile, in 1983 it opened a production facility in Panama City, FL., simplifying its distribution and increased its sales nationwide. Yamaha purchased Century and Cobia Boats within a few months; the new company was called C&C Boats, in 1995. After that, in 2012 Allcraft Marine purchased Century Boats and relocated the company and manufacturing plant to Zephyrhills, Fla.
